I got it, too, but am going to ignore it.  This is a work PC behind firewalls, etc.  There is no virus on this pc so I suspect this new member is a bot.  Regardless of how much you trust a site, never download anything until you check it out.  You did the right thing by asking, ruby_ice.

It appears we have another spam bot attack. And this one has a very creative name. I'll be sending it packing. Sorry!

Perhaps this story has something to do with what this guy was trying to do, I hope none of our members fell for this.  Does anyone know if there is a go directly to jail site where you can turn these guys in?

This just sucks -

Latest Internet Explorer Flaw Exposes Any File on Your PC
Internet Explorer is no stranger to security vulnerabilities, but a flaw revealed by Microsoft on Wednesday is one of the most stunning we've ever seen. The flaw affects IE6, IE7, and IE8 on Windows XP as well as IE7 and IE8 on Vista and Windows 7 if protected mode has been disabled (though protected mode is turned on by default).

The exploit would allow a hacker to access any file on your system by forcing IE to incorrectly render data from local files, exposing it to outside parties. The flaw, which is actually several smaller security holes combined in an ingenious way, would require tricking a victim into visiting a Web site through e-mail or IM, and then the attacker know the location and name of the file they'd wish to access. Unfortunately, many programs store sensitive data using a standardized structure that would be easy to find though guesswork.

I dunno.  I barely understand that stuff as it is.  We have IE something or other here at work.  Is there a safer browser?  I've never used any others.

Hi all,

Yeah Ive been trying to stay on top of the spammers as often as possible, as I get notification emails when ANY new member signs up, and I always check them.

As for this ForumTeamSupport user, Summer banned him, and I went back and deleted their account as well as any thing they may have posted on the forums. As for any personal messages they may have sent I am not sure if when I deleted the account it deleted those as well, but hopefully Summer got to them before they could send out too many.

As for browser safety, thats somewhat subjective and everyone has their own opinions about it. Every browser has flaws and security holes and most are constantly updating to fix them.

I myself use Firefox as it is best for my computer and I find it to be the most reliable and you can download it from http://www.getfirefox.com (which will direct you to the main Mozilla website).

There is an article here about IE vs. Firefox security issues:
http://www.esecurityplanet.com/features/article.php/3829396/Firefox-35-vs-Internet-Explorer-8-Which-is-Safer.htm

Its the most recent I could find but Im sure you could google up more if you want additional in-depth info about the subject.

However I do recommend that you do NOT use browsers such as Opera, Safari, or even Google Chrome...most of these are full of holes, or have not be developed enough to be invulnerable to major browser security issues.

I can take a good guess without clicking.

A cookie gets uploaded to your browser which in return downloads a trojan to your computer. Most likely the trojan will be a data-miner scanning your computer for stored passwords and other similar information which it then sends back to the host.

Still want to click? Wink
