ask Xaos & Kephra if they've in their experience been bouncing that many spammers per day, or if this is a new sort of spamming machine. maybe it's always been this gnarly & we've just taken it for granted that Kephra & others were giving the spambots the boot. if it's been this active, then I've got to hand it to you all for spending so much of your time, wasting it shooting at asteroids flying at you like a video game.

Just like what happens when the Beast is got US all mind $#!@ed into thinking everybody is an enemey & everything is a threat.

somebody has got to back up all the files on this Website. Is there a button you can press to back it up onto your own HD if desired?  I'm sure with P2P protocols it's simple enough to distirbute content across the whole wWW in the form of a SuperComputer, like the one that in essence lives presently.

wonder what is going on though, I have deleted four messages just this morning, and I am sure that the garbage can is overflowing with spam messages.

sigh, miss Kephra a lot. and still don't understand what happened. just have to take it a day at a time and see what happens.

I am feeling pretty good, the numbness in my right side is almost gone, it only comes and goes. I still get tired very easy, but getting lot's of attention and love from my daughters so I am milking it for all I can.

Much love to all who still visit here. The few of us left need to decide what to do - since it is apparent no one is coming back to help us. Kephra is gone and Xaos has not answered any of the PMs that I have sent him. I have seen nothing to indicate that anyone is maintaining this site.

Now is it because of me? Or are they just not interested in Stargate any more? If it's because they want me to leave I will. But the server fee will run out soon and this site will just disappear, I have no computer knowledge to maintain this site. Benjamin helps with deleting the spammers who average about 8 - 10 a day and are increasing. I guess lots of people need money since the jobs are disappearing. But I doubt anyone really orders any of this crap!

So for now I guess we sit it out here, but we need to make plans for moving on. Thanks for all the good times we've had.

I haven't joined them yet,  but I assumed that I  (and many of you)  would manage to meet up there.

It is NOT because of you that Kephra left. 
I miss him too,  I enjoyed his wisdom and atleast some of his arguments.

Personally,  and internationally, it really is fascinating how people react to being wrong. 
Watch the talking heads on TV.  The nasty ones yelling and not allowing others to talk are the ones who are wrong.
I once discovered,  within my family,  people who were embezzling money from elderly family  . . .  I called them on it,  and I was attacked with such strong loud rotton lying vehemence  . . . . . . . .  A lesson  . . . . . . . . . . .

This is surprising,  because everyday 2012 comes closer.   
I would like to remain in touch with all of you.   
And I'll keep my name Benjamin in the next blog,  unless someone else has it.

no new members, if you want to register, come back & do so on Thursday afternoons between 12PM and 3PM? Set the protocols for membership to that. that way the gate isn't open at all times. if somebody really wants to be a member of the site, they can come back then.

With that said I think I can fix the majority of your spammer issues here if you like I'm not trying to disuade you from joining CR2 {quite the opposite actually} I just like the idea of sister/brother fora and spammers shouldn't be a reason for closing a place

That and it looks like there are just a couple of things that are set wrong here and it would only take a couple of minutes to fix

Oh siguie you are a lifesaver to our sinking boat! I have joined over at CRII, marti invited me a long time ago and always meant to join. You seemed like such nice people, as you are showing here. Oh yes, yes if you can help us here it would be wonderful. It seems such a shame to let this place sink under.

Oh thank you for the kind words

The first thing someone should do is go into Admin => Registration => Settings

... then change "Method of registration employed for new members" to "Member Activation" or "Member Approval" the second means someone has to approve a new account before it is active ... it's just a click thang. The first one is the standard and involves an activation link being emailed to the new member.


The second thing to do ... on the same page change "Complexity of visual verification image" to HIGH you are on medium and it's too easy.

Those two things will slow your spam problem fairly dramatically.

The third thing will need to be done by the webmaster on the server and it involves something called .htaccess ... essentially I set one up that literally bans the vast majority of spam and fishing servers. It's the main reason we reopened registration to email activation again ... and I can just give whomever a copy.

You will still get the occasional spammer but this will knock out the spambots and continuous onslaught


Oh and I'm using a second account 'cuz after I registered I logged in then reset my email and it got stuck


Anywho, don't fret it's the weekend and I'm sure we can shore things up here
